I have always been a big fan of the Bourne series and this installment was no exception. The film is high paced and intense, it has a lot of tense, suspenseful moments and a few good surprises. The film opens with Bourne being attacked by a group of special ops commandos from Operation Treadstone while he is in Russia meeting an asset to find out who framed him for the deaths of his girlfriend Marie Kreutz and two CIA agents. Bourne escapes from them but they follow him across the world to uncover his past while dodging other government agencies that are also looking for him. The first half of the film follows the hunt for Bourne across Europe, Turkey and Russia. There is a lot of action and chase scenes. Although many people say parts of this film are unrealistic, I enjoyed it. It was an interesting mix of old-school spy movies with modern technology that still felt realistic to modern times. The first half also gives us quite a few surprises that will not be spoiled here. The second half (part two) does not open with Bourne meeting up with another asset so fast as he thought he would but it still has enough action to keep the audience on the edges of their seats. He is being chased by various people after he meets up with his “handler.” The film then goes back to Turkey, where Bourne discovers the location of the other asset that he will be meeting, this one being someone that was not supposed to find out about him. The film has some great action sequences including high speed car chases, hand-to-hand combat, gun battles, slow-mo action sequences and even a little Russian Roulette. There are also some tense moments with characters putting their lives on the line. For those who do not know what The Bourne Legacy is about there are a few surprises there as well. There is a small amount of humor in this film and in some cases it is quite funny. I felt it was a welcome addition to the movie. Matt Damon and Joan Allen (who were both in Bravo Two Zero with Jason Bourne) return in their roles as Jason Bourne and Pamela Landy (from The Bourne Supremacy). A new character Alicia Vikander plays Heather Lee, an asset that uses her hacking skills to track down terrorists with the help of an artificial intelligence program called “The Algorithm.” The Algorithm has been used by several of the CIA Directors to track down terrorists without needing a human operative. Tate Donovan (Bourne Identity and The Bourne Ultimatum, and who has played Jason Bourne in four films) also appears as the CIA Director of Operations Noah Vosen. This is his first appearance in a “Jason Bourne” film. The film stars Vincent Cassel (Taken), Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair), Scott Shepherd (The Last Stand with Bruce Willis, The Crossing Guard with Christian Bale) and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler).
